Manhattan College was founded in 1853 by the Brothers of the Christian Schools, a teaching order started by Saint John Baptist de La Salle, patron saint of teachers. The word “Lasallian” is derived from De La Salle’s name, but is much more than just a label. The Lasallian mission drives everything they do.

Manhattan College offers the variety of programming you might find at a large university, but with the personalized learning experience of a small, liberal arts school. We offer more than 100 majors, minors, graduate programs and advanced certificates, as well as degrees that can be earned fully online or combined with a traditional classroom experience. The most popular majors at Manhattan College include: Engineering; Business, Management, Marketing; Communications Technologies/Technicians; Education; and Psychology.

Campus and Community

The Manhattan College campus is an urban environment on 23 acres. Manhattan College offers students the best of both worlds: a beautiful campus with a close-knit community and homey atmosphere, plus easy access to the most exciting city in the world — New York.

Many colleges and universities in this region boast about their proximity to New York City, but at Manhattan College we offer a truly unique location. We are within the boundaries of New York City and our campus is next door to a subway stop. But unlike many other New York City schools, we have a true college campus — 23 acres centered around a quad where our students play Frisbee, study under the sun and hang out with friends.

Nestled in the historic neighborhood of Riverdale, the lovely campus in the Bronx is close to dozens of restaurants and shops, as well as Van Cortlandt Park, one of New York's largest parks. Best of all, it's only 35 minutes from midtown Manhattan. Our unbeatable location offers a unique and safe way to take advantage of all New York City has to offer. You'll get a true college campus experience while also having easy access to the jobs and internships found in New York City, plus all the amazing cultural experiences found in the city.

Student Life

What you choose to study is one part of your story at Manhattan. How you get involved on campus is another. The community is made up of people from all backgrounds and experiences who come to Manhattan College with different ideas and interests. The best way to experience it all and find your niche is to join a club, volunteer for a service opportunity or attend an event on campus. Over 100 clubs and organizations are available for both academic interests like accounting and engineering to social clubs like games and Broadway. There’s something for everyone.

The campus organizes a Day of Service where the entire campus gives back to the community by working on volunteer projects for organizations throughout the Bronx. There's also Family Weekend, Festival of Lessons & Carols, and movies on the Quad.

The college sponsors on-campus intramural sports for men’s, women’s and co-ed teams. Sports that are typically offered include: basketball, dodgeball, softball, volleyball, flag football, and soccer.

Housing and Dining

Living on campus in one of the five residence halls is an important part of the full college experience. Your floormates will become your second family — a network of friends who you'll bond with over shared meals, late night study sessions and Netflix binges.

Each of the residence halls has a resident director, a staff member who coordinates residence life programming and oversees the resident assistants, better known as RAs. RAs are students, typically upperclassmen, who live on each floor of the hall and serve as a liaison and resource for the residents. RAs plan regular activities, like game night and trips to popular New York City destinations, to create a bonded community on their floor.

Dining services at Manhattan College offers something for everyone, from smoothies and salads to savory pasta and brick oven pizza. Dining options include an all-you-can-eat buffet in Locke's Loft, grab-and-go items in Kelly Commons Marketplace and cafe-style choices in Café 1853. The providers place a strong emphasis on local and sustainable food, using local products from regional farmers and suppliers, including produce from the campus garden.

All students who live in campus housing are required to have a meal plan. Students who live off campus can opt to buy a meal plan but aren't required to have one. All plans feature: 10% bonus on purchases of $100 or more Dining Dollars; 10% discount each time you spend your Dining Dollars; Ability to purchase additional Dining Dollars with a 20% savings for all incremental purchases of $100 or more.

Sports Programs

Student athletes can get involved with sports at the intramural, club and varsity levels. The Manhattan College Jaspers, named after the school's baseball coach in the late 1800s, compete in the NCAA Division I Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
