Colorado State University is a public institution that was founded in 1870 in Fort Collins, Colorado. The CSU campus is on 586 acres of wide-open spaces. The architecture combines a mix of classical building around “The Oval” in the more historic part of campus with modern developments around the periphery.
Colorado State University is located in Fort Collins, a midsize city at the base of the Rocky Mountains, less than an hour north of Denver. Fort Collins has a historic district with homes from the 1880s and many growing new developments. Fort Collins has 315 miles of bike routes and trails and over 300 sunny days per year making it ideal for outdoor enthusiasts. There are over 158,000 residents, the fourth largest city in Colorado. Local attractions include Lory State Park, many natural reserves, the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery, and the Fort Collins Museum of Art.

Outside the classroom and research lab, students can get involved with the more than 350 campus organizations, including about 35 fraternities and sororities. Student athletes can find sports at the recreational, club and varsity level. On-campus recreation and intramural teams include over 25 different sports through competitive and recreational leagues, tournaments, and competitions. Popular sports include flag football, Kickball, dodgeball, and water polo. The on-campus recreation center includes a pool, weightlifting areas, a climbing wall, and group exercise classes. An outdoor program offers fifty different trips and clinics throughout the year to enhance the outdoor recreational experiences.

Housing and Dining

More than 5,000 students live in 12 on-campus resident halls, including all incoming freshmen. There are a range of different room types including single rooms, suite-style with semi-private bathrooms and community -style halls.71 percent of students live off campus.
Three different dining plans are available (10, 14, or 21 meals per week) and are rolled into the costs of housing. Meals are available at ten different locations from grab-and-go sandwiches to complete hot meals.

Sports Programs

The Colorado State Rams in green and gold are the athletic teams that represent CSU. Colorado State's athletic teams compete along with 8 other institutions in the Mountain West Conference, which is an NCAA Division I conference and sponsors Division I FBS football. Colorado State has 16 Division I NCAA sports and thousands of Fans. CSU has won 9 MWC tournament championships and won or shared 11 regular season titles. Rams football teams won or shared the Mountain West title in 1999, 2000 and 2002.
